What are you Thinking

If you wonder what you are thinking, take a look at what shows up in your life. I used to work for a difficult employer and was trying to figure out why I attracted this job into my life. My first thought was to describe the dominant characteristics of the woman who was my supervisor. The first word that came to mind was trust. My observation was that she did not trust her employees to do their job and would verbally abuse one young man in front of other employees. The next thing that I noticed was a lack of communication. She assumed that the employees knew what she wanted. I remember being asked for a file of paperwork that I had not created. Each of us had a different view of how the job should be done, and we were not on the same page.

A Course in Miracles, says “Projection makes perception. The world you see is what you gave it, nothing more than that. But though it is no more than that, it is not less. Therefore, to you it is important. It is the witness to your state of mind, the outside picture of an inward condition”
(T-21.In.1-5).

What was I thinking? Did I trust in a Higher Power or was I trying to control my life? Did I communicate with my Source through prayer and meditation? If the answer to these tough questions was, “No,” then I was living by default and not co-creating a life of joy. I knew that if I created this situation, I could also release it by choosing to think differently. I began with prayer and forgave myself for my lack of trust and for thinking that I knew what was best for me. I thought about the kind of work environment that I wanted to experience. Words like respect, easy commute, comfortable salary, and friendly co-workers became my mantra. I observed that I began to relax and feel a sense of expectancy about the future. Within two weeks, I released the toxic environment of the old job and embraced a new position that had the qualities I desired at that time.

This powerful lesson taught me to look at my world as an indication of my state of mind. Do I like what I observe? Do I want to make any changes? What would bring me joy? That is where my work begins, and I am grateful that I have the tools to release what no longer serves me and to create something bigger, better, and more in alignment with who I am becoming.

Join me on this journey. What would you like to create? There is no need to analyze or ask why an event or situation is in your life. Focus on what you want to see and take it into prayer and meditation. Be grateful that it is already accomplished in the Mind of God.

A Course in Miracles study group meets in the Education Bldg. on Monday nights from 6:30-8:00 pm. New and continuing students welcome.

Karen, What a wonderful article. I love the reminder, every day, that what shows up for us is what we’re thinking and we get to choose to co-create our lives by design right then and there. Blessings, Tina
