One of the great gifts that Rev. Penny brought to NVC, in my opinion, is the invitation to do the deep work. Her love of the body of work that has been created by Rev. Lloyd Strom and Rev. Marcia Sutton is palatable when one attends a Healing Service which takes place on the first Wednesday of each month.
I had not been for a couple of month to this special service and decided to attend the first one of the year. Not that I had a pressing issue that needed healing (so I thought), more to be in community and support NVC in general. From the moment I walked into the chapel, I could tell that the room had been prepared for deep healing. It felt sacred and important. We were about 15 individuals and Rev. Penny led us through a deep journey of peeking into our consciousness and allowing what was ready to be healed to surface, to lovingly be released and our inherent wholeness to be revealed.
As I was sitting there, I was reminded that the last time I participated in this sacred service I had a challenge in my life that I didn’t quite know how to approach. Though I could clearly see that a habit had been formed out of a false belief, and also that this habit was no longer beneficial to me, I didn’t know how to change the habit.
The fear to faith process in the loving atmosphere of acceptance clearly showed me how that false belief was formed and why it was still active in my life. Furthermore, and this is the real blessing of attending this service, Rev. Penny shared the action to lovingly release the habit and heal the original wound.
After a week of diligent prayer and focused forgiveness work, I noticed a shift mostly in my thoughts and habits. The next thing I noticed was that I experienced the situation very differently and saw options I had not been able to see before.
This collection of the evidence that palatable, lasting change is possible inspires me to continue to show up and do the work.
