This past Sunday, NVC was graced with a group of Tibetan monks who joined us for morning services. If you were there, you might have wondered the purpose of their visit. The monks are on a year-long Sacred Art Tour of the U.S. from the Tibetan monastery of Drepung Gomang, under His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The group was warmly welcomed into the Social Hall after services as we learned more about their struggles and quest to keep their culture alive from them and their host in Phoenix, Rev. Tina Brown from the Unity Scottsdale Church.
On Tuesday, they offered an impromptu Puja blessing (Sanskrit for “offering”). The monks chanted prayers to overcome negativity, promoting spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical well-being.The prayers are recited in the traditional overtone chanting, each monk singing a full chord of three notes, accompanied by symbolic hand gestures and bells. It was a magical experience!
If you are interested in attending other events while the monks are in Phoenix, there are several events planned at the Unity Church of Phoenix this weekend. Check it out on their website at unityphx.org.
What a sweet opportunity to experience connection, unity and oneness in our world. We were all blessed by the presence of these gentle spirits at NVC!
