“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to participate in Project Connect. Wow-what a powerful morning. What beautiful people.
You know, going into a situation like this you carry lots of images about the kind of people in need you will meet. But none that I hosted or met fit the “profile.” They were just people–amazing people. I was as amazed by the other volunteers I met–all faiths, all beliefs, some drove for two hours to be there. I left wondering who came with more need, the homeless or those who served them. Doesn’t matter, abundance was there for all.
I had to leave at about 11:45 and hand off my second guest to another (the first took most of the morning). The spirit was willing but my back wasn’t. I think carrying (and loving) those beautiful little children that came into my care with Helen, and helping a frail Rachelle tote stuff around, was more than I was prepared for. I will have to spend more time at the gym (or chiropractor) before attempting this again.
I will treasure the hugs I got from Helen and Rachelle when we finished our time together –what goes around comes around–some sort of law I guess- (chuckle).”
