You are invited to a unique, welcoming, thought provoking space for open discussions about death, dying and all things connected to it.
In alignment with the vision and mission of New Vision Center for Spiritual Living, NVC Death Cafe will invite participants to utilize the safe space to have an open discussion about the process of dying and the death event with reflections on living life fully in the present time. The cafe will be a monthly gathering on a Saturday of each month from 1pm until 2:30pm.
Note: This is not a bereavement support or grief counseling setting.
What is a Death Cafe?
[AI Generated Information] A Death Cafe is a scheduled, non-profit gathering where people, often strangers, meet to discuss death and dying. The primary aim is to increase awareness of death to help people make the most of their finite lives, rather than for grief counseling or morbid fascination.
Key Aspects of a Death Cafe:
- Discussion, Not Counseling: It is a group-directed, open discussion with no set agenda, themes, or educational curriculum.
- Voluntary & Non-Profit: Gatherings are free or low-cost, not-for-profit, and held in accessible, respectful spaces.
- Origins: The movement was inspired by Swiss sociologist Bernard Crettaz's "café mortel" concept and brought to the UK by Jon Underwood in 2011.
- Atmosphere: These meetings are generally confidential, open-hearted, and often involve as much laughter as tears.
What a Death Cafe Is Not:
- It is not a grief support group: While it touches on death, it is not intended for people actively processing a recent, acute loss.
- It is not a place to sell services: There is no intention of leading people to any product, conclusion, or specific course of action
