Dear Beloveds,
If you are one of the nearly 90 beautiful friends journeying throughThe Science of Mind this year, this passage from page 157 will sound familiar. It is here that Ernest Holmes reminds us, “When we use our creative imagination in strong faith, it will create for us, out of the One Substance, whatever we have formed in thought. In this way man becomes a Co‑Creator with God.”
Imagination is one of our most sacred faculties. Every one of us has used it to bring forth Beauty, Truth, Love, and Wholeness. And, if we’re honest, we’ve also used it to conjure worst‑case scenarios, anxious futures, and elaborate worry. The same creative engine, running on very different fuel.
This brings to mind one of my favorite Zen stories, the monks helping people out of the river. They keep pulling folks from the rushing water until one monk finally pauses, looks upstream, and wonders what’s happening further up the path. That moment of stopping, breathing, and looking upstream supports us in becoming better at sacred imagination. It’s the shift from reacting to life to consciously creating with Life.
