Dear Beloveds,
This month, we're talking about Transcendent Purpose, finding and embracing the calling that the Divine has placed within each one of us. It's an uplifting topic, but it can also be a confusing one. I once had a friend say to me, "I don't know what to do. I don't have a big dream or this deep call from God. I just want to grow my tomatoes and enjoy my kids."
Before this conversation, I had never really contemplated how grandiose and foreign phrases like "a Divine calling" or "life purpose" could sound. As the dreamer (and chaser) of big dreams, the disconnect hadn't occurred to me, until my sweet friend pointed it out. Then I had some thinking to do. I found my answer in a quote from Marianne Williamson's "A Return to Love," where she wrote, “The purpose of our lives is to give birth to the best which is within us.”
Oh, yes. I remember now. The calling on our lives is simply what our hearts yearn to experience. One of my lifelong favorite poems reminds me, "to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition...This is to have succeeded." (Bessie Anderson Stanley).
When we turn within with self-acceptance, our individual transcendent purpose makes itself clear. And guess what? They are all beautiful and valuable. I hope you'll join us this Sunday, as we are exploring, "The Purpose that Surpasses All."
Much Love,
Rev. Lezli
