Dear Beloveds,

Do you remember how you felt the first time you stepped into a spiritual center — whether it was New Vision or another New Thought community? Last night, as students entered the sacred work of opening their minds and hearts to this teaching in a deeper way, I was reminded of my own first steps.

In our Foundation class, we always revisit the What We Believe statements written 99 years ago by Dr. Ernest Holmes, founder of the Science of Mind and Spirit. One of them continues to touch a profound place within me:

“We believe in the eternal Goodness, the eternal Loving-kindness, and the eternal Givingness of Life to All.”

Perhaps it moves me so deeply because I remember what it felt like to hear it for the first time, and what it felt like to choose to believe it, even when circumstances seemed to argue otherwise (and trust me they were arguing loudly!)

Our annual theme, Open at the Top, brings us into June’s exploration of Higher, Deeper Love. This month we will redefine love, reexamine our relationship with it, and expand our awareness of its presence. We’ll discover that Love is far grander, more generous, and more alive than we’ve allowed ourselves to imagine.

You are invited to notice how this expanded idea of Love shows up in your week. Let’s compare notes on Sunday as we begin this series with a joyful, wholehearted declaration:

I want to know what Love is.

Much Love,

Rev. Karin
